Parenting Anxious Kids: SPACE Intensive

$550.00

Parenting Anxious Kids: SPACE Intensive at Mind Chicago is a 5-session (2.5-week) virtual therapy group designed to support parents of children with anxiety.

SPACE—which stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions—is a parent-based treatment developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at Yale University. It’s been shown in research to help kids feel less anxious and function better, even though children don’t attend the sessions themselves. In SPACE, parents are the agents of change—learning new ways to respond to their child’s anxiety and reduce behaviors that unintentionally keep the anxiety cycle going.

Led by a certified SPACE therapist, Dr. Lee Wells, each session offers a supportive environment where parents can connect, learn, and practice new skills together. You’ll learn how to respond more supportively when your child feels anxious, and how to gently step back from parenting behaviors that might be accidentally maintaining their anxiety. Each family develops a personalized plan for home and receives feedback along the way.

By the end of the group, parents feel more confident and equipped with tools they can continue using long after the program ends. Many families choose to continue building on these skills through ongoing work with a Mind Chicago therapist, while others feel ready to keep practicing on their own.

This group is a great fit for parents who are motivated to learn, reflect, and make small, meaningful changes that help their child—and their whole family—feel calmer and more in control. This group is not a fit for families with children with significant aggressive/physical behaviors, self-harm, or suicidal ideation. Although SPACE can be helpful in the face of these challenges, families should consider individual SPACE therapy to get the individualized support they need for these issues.

We encourage parents to review and practice their new skills weekly to help solidify learning and create lasting change at home. The group requires cameras on and active participation.

Fees are for the full program and include up to two parents/caregivers.
