Welcome to OMG (Only Making Gains) Kids’ Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group at Redwood School, where we meet weekly for 60 minutes of engaging, skill-building fun. Led by child DBT therapist, Nora Barry, LCSW, this structured group is designed specifically for kids. Each session combines age-appropriate psychoeducation, lively group discussions, and hands-on activities that make learning and practicing new skills both effective and enjoyable.

Our goal is to enhance your child's emotional well-being, equip them with practical coping strategies, and foster stronger connections with both their peers and caregivers. In the OMG group, we're all about helping kids grow, connect, and thrive.

The OMG Kids Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Group is a year-long therapeutic group designed for 3rd – 5th graders who struggle with big emotions, social difficulties, and anxiety. The group introduces young folks to DBT skills, including mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Location: Redwood School - Edgewater

Child In-Person at Redwood Group Dates/Time:

Mondays, October 20th – April 20th (20 sessions)

12:30p – 1:30p (Redwood Lunch)

Optional Parent Virtual Session Dates:

TBD – Parent session dates and times will be sent out closer to the start of the program

School Closure and/or No Group Days:

Mondays 10/13, 10/27, 11/24, 12/22, 12/29, 1/5, 1/19, 2/16, 3/23

Facilitator: Nora Barry, LCSW is a seasoned child DBT therapist at Mind Chicago

Getting Started: Once registered, Nora Barry, LCSW will reach out to welcome you to the program in February and provide you with the required electronic intake paperwork to complete.  You will also schedule a group therapy intake with Nora so she can share more about the group and get to know you’re family.

Group minimum and maximum participants: The group requires at least 4 participants to run and will be capped at 6 participants.

*This group is not a fit for students with significant behavioral challenges, severe psychiatric concerns, and students who strongly oppose participation or are not motivated to engage in the group.

Fees: This program requires a non-refundable $450 deposit, which includes the group therapy intake and the first four (4) therapy group sessions at Redwood. After which, you will be charged $85 per weekly session for the remaining eight (16) group therapy sessions at Redwood. Mind Chicago is NOT in-network with any insurance company, but we do provide documentation for submission to your insurance for potential reimbursement.

Payments and Refunds: At registration, you will pay a non-refundable deposit of $450 to hold your child's spot. Once you complete the intake paperwork and check in with your facilitator, the remaining payments will be billed to your card on a weekly basis after each group therapy session. Please note that payments are non-refundable and non-transferable to future groups. If the therapist(s) of this group determines your child may benefit from other services and cannot continue in the group after the first session, you will be eligible for a full refund. For group therapy sessions consisting of 15-20 sessions, students are permitted one absence from the group. All other absences are charged at full fee, and no refunds will be issued for missed sessions, given the limited number of clients participating. If your child had an extenuating health concern causing an ongoing school absence, please reach out to Nora Barry to discuss next steps.
